Rigging

Rigging is the process of creating “rigs,” the virtual marionette strings that make it possible to move and pose a character. The challenge in developing a rig is to balance having as much control as possible (using more strings) while being quicker to adjust (fewer strings). Mike Wazowski from Monsters, Inc. has 7,000 controls—for a body with basically no torso!
