Private Event FAQs
When can events start and end at the Museum?
Evening events can start after Griffin MSI closes to the public. Griffin MSI is open to the public daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with extended hours (9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m) during Spring Break, summer months, and the winter holidays. Special Event start times are customized based on the client’s needs. Museum rental include 4-5 hours' use of the space based on the details of your event.
Can I host a private event during normal business hours?
Yes! Griffin MSI has wonderful private spaces for daytime meetings and events. Please contact an Event Consultant for further details.
Will my guests be able to visit the exhibits during my after-hours event?
Yes! Exhibit areas are available as part of your museum rental and are specific to the area you choose. Griffin MSI will staff your event much like during the day with facilitators, Guest Service staff, security and facilities staff.
What time can I begin to set up for my event?
Event setup prior to the Museum closing requires prior permission. Larger A/V and lighting setup may be done the night before with advance approval. Please speak with your special event consultant if you have additional setup questions.
Can I bring in my own vendors?
To ensure the success of your event, the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry has partnered with exclusive vendors who extensively know the venue and are trained in the policies and procedures of working in the building. All of our vendors are licensed by the city and state, and meet the insurance requirements mandated by Griffin MSI and the Chicago Park District.
Where should my guests park?
Complimentary parking is provided for evening events in our onsite underground secure lot with easy access into the building.
What type of events can be held at Griffin MSI?
The Museum is available for rental for all types of events both corporate and social. If you are looking to hold an event involving an admission charge or involving fundraising, you must be a qualified not-for-profit tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3).
What if my guest has a special dietary request?
No problem! Please let your Event Consultant know in advance if you have any special dietary requests. Our culinary team is happy to accommodate reasonable requests pertaining to health conditions, religious practices or allergies.
Are there discount considerations for fundraisers?
Yes! If you are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3), the Museum does offer a 10% discount on space rental.
