From Science Fiction to Science Fact 2024
Meet NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts scientists with visionary ideas powering new missions to the most extreme environments in and out of our solar system!
Our 12th annual From Science Fiction to Science Fact presentation features two NASA visionaries working to solve challenges in space travel and discovery through NASA’s Innovative and Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program.
This online event features two futuristic concepts for our next frontiers of space exploration. As NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Fellows, the scientists behind these projects are creating innovative, technically credible, advanced concepts that could one day "change the possible" in aerospace. The Museum is proud to present From Science Fiction to Science Fact as the latest edition of a long-running partnership with NIAC.
Zack Cordero, Ph.D., Edgerton Career Development Assistant Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT, presents a concept for space-based creation of Large Bend-Formed structures in a new generation of orbiting spacecraft with greater capabilities.
Peter A. Curreri, Ph.D., Chief Science Officer and Co-founder of Lunar Resources Inc., explains his work toward a Lunar South Pole Oxygen Pipeline to reduce the cost and risk of lunar surface operations for the Artemis program and its goal to develop a permanent human presence on the Moon.
Katherine Reilly, NIAC Strategic Partnerships Manager, introduces the scientists and the NIAC program. Frank Spellman, NIAC Bryce Analyst, moderates the Q&A session. The program is hosted by Dr. Voula Saridakis, Curator at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry.
