Build Your Own 727 Our iconic jetliner has re-opened with an exciting new look at the ins and outs of the commercial aviation industry. And just as the sleek Boeing 727 flies permanently above our Transportation Gallery, you can create your own small-scale glider of this aeronautical landmark. Our Wanger Family Fab Lab is hosting a weekly guided workshop to build your own flyable 727 using laser-cut components. Guests ages 10 and up are invited to sign up for this one-of-a-kind opportunity to put your making skills to the test. |
Black Creativity Family Day This year’s Black Creativity Program features a particularly lively celebration, as the annual Black Creativity Family Day falls on June 19, popularly known as “Juneteenth.” The day will include the creation of a larger social art piece inspired by a taped performance by J. Ivy, a poet and 2021 Black Creativity Innovator, with contributions from the Museum’s guests. Ayodele Dance and Drum will also be performing live, and guests will also enjoy the creation of chalk art on the building’s North Plaza. Come on out for this rare summer celebration of the power of African-American ingenuity and creativity. |
Summer Camp Is in Session A new round of camps will be welcoming both in-person and virtual inventors-in-training this summer. Incoming 6th-9th graders will be introduced to making and creative skills, using the same techniques for innovating that professional designers, scientists and engineers employ. The “Summer Explorers” unit will dive into the science of health and medicine, forensics, mathematical patterns and even outer space. In addition, the Ann Drake Girls Camp will take over for one week with a girls-only session, giving young women a unique opportunity to try out their skills in a supportive environment. As always, Griffin MSI supplies the tools and the instruction; all campers need is an active sense of curiosity! |
