Falkirk Wheel
As featured in Dream Big, the ingenuity behind the world's only rotating boat lift is enough to make your head spin.
Back in the 1930s, ships that wanted to switch between Scotland's Forth & Clyde and Union canals had to spend nearly a day traversing a stepped series of eleven locks. Now, the revolving Falkirk Wheel can lift a boat between the canals in a matter of minutes. It uses a pair of opposing water-filled gondolas to lift boats 80 feet into the air, requiring only the power that would go into running a washing machine.
This is just one of the engineering feats—big and small—to discover in Dream Big, the new film at Griffin MSI. From the Great Wall of China to underwater robots, you'll meet the dreamers, the makers, the builders who will shape our future.
