Chris Crane Remembered

Message from Chevy Humphrey, President and CEO

It is with a heavy heart that I share news of the passing of Chris Crane. Chris served on the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry Board for more than a decade beginning in December 2011. As chair from 2019 to 2022 Chris guided the Museum through the pandemic, the global search for the new President and CEO, and the completion of the $363 million Limitless Campaign. His kind and dedicated leadership during these transformative times placed Griffin MSI in a position of strength while keeping us focused on advancing education, youth development, and entrepreneurship—which was very important to him.

I am honored to have worked alongside him and blessed to have learned from, and be mentored by him.

Chris was Exelon's CEO since 2012. During his tenure, Exelon was an industry leader in improving the reliability and resilience of the grid, as well as combating climate change through clean energy generation, safety and operational improvements and customer service. He established within Exelon and the industry a focus on workforce development in underserved communities, with particular attention on STEM careers for young women and job training and placement for work-ready adults. He was committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, signing the White House Equal Pay Pledge and supporting DACA.

Chris served on the board and was former Chair of the Edison Electric Institute. He was a member of the board of directors of AEGIS Insurance Services, and former chair of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations and the Nuclear Energy Institute, the nation's nuclear industry trade association.

Chris established an enduring legacy, at Griffin MSI and beyond, and we will work each day to honor his extraordinary contributions. Our hearts go out to Chris' wife Jillian, his children, and the entire Crane family.

Sincerely,
