Annual Columbian Ball
In 1933, the Museum of Science and Industry opened its doors in what was once the Palace of Fine Arts from the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. The Columbian Ball was named after this world renowned Exposition and annually plays a crucial role in funding the Museum's exciting and inspirational exhibitions and educational programs.
Proceeds from the Columbian Ball go towards the Museum's Annual Fund, which in turn supports every aspect of the Museum experience. Examples include transformational interactive exhibits and science education and outreach. The Museum is a world leader in providing informal educational programming that reaches an average of 250,000 school children every year and more than 1.5 million guests last year alone. With your generous support, the Museum can remain accessible to all these children and continue to inspire and motivate them to achieve their full potential in the fields of science, technology, medicine and engineering.
The 29th Annual Columbian Ball: October 23, 2009
On behalf of our co-chairs the Honorable and Mrs. Richard M. Daley, Cathy and Bill Osborn and Barbara and David Speer, we are pleased to announce that A Celebration of You! Mind, Body and Spirit, the 29th Annual Columbian Ball, will be held on Friday, October 23rd, 2009.
This year’s event will bring together Chicago’s business and civic leaders to celebrate the Museum’s new permanent exhibit YOU! The Experience and the Museum’s vision to “inspire and motivate our children to achieve their full potential in the fields of science, technology, medicine and engineering.”
Not only is the Columbian Ball a wonderful way to support the Museum and its educational programs and exhibits, but it is also a fabulous evening that includes an auction, dinner, entertainment and dancing. It is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy one of Chicago’s iconic institutions and provides the perfect setting for entertaining clients, friends or associates. We hope you will be a part of this year’s event!
